Holistic Nutrition For All Ages

Welcome to The Rainbow Program. In the next pages, you will learn about holistic nutrition in the form of herbs, essential oils, teas, and whole foods and their role in maintaining health.

The Rainbow Program is non-numerical nutrition and is not focussed on numerical values such as calories, grams of protein or individual vitamins, but instead encourages people to eat one serving of each colour each day to obtain all the necessary nutrients. The foods listed are whole foods: grains, legumes, vegetables, fruits, seeds and nuts, and can be consumed as whole food in their natural unprocessed form.

This food program and its focus an antioxidant-rich foods is ideal for patients wanting to prevent and recover from cancer, as well as auto-immune disorders. It includes the research of Emily Isaacson and cutting edge information about cellular communication by including foods that contain essential saccharides and polysaccharides. These are found in some very specific foods and modulate immune function.

There are many different forms of healing available, but there is also a common language between them. The Rainbow Program provides this common language with a program that crosses language and cultural barriers, providing nutrition and healing principles that apply to anyone regardless of their disease or condition. It gives the possibility of healing the mental, physical and spiritual person, by providing an intuitive dimension to holistic nutrition.  The Rainbow Program also teaches an intuitive, spiritual element that allows each patient the tools to recover based on a healing colour approach. Colours are provided as wavelengths through healing foods, herbs and essential oils.

A sense of wisdom must prevail in natural medicine, a sense of applying the appropriate cure that has its roots in both scientific evidence and as determined by the patient’s individual needs.  To find holistic health, one must improve the overall functioning of the body, which then improves emotions, thoughts, behaviors, habits and constitution.  As one’s constitution is strengthened, one is more resilient, more balanced and more able to consume nutrients in the right proportion for health.

Food and Mood

Food and mood is a topic that asks of all who eat: how does food make you feel? Keeping a food journal of what you eat, and how it makes you feel is just the beginning of being able to piece together the connection between your moods, emotions, and what you put in your mouth.

The natural wavelengths of colour affect our moods, our thinking, our behavior, and so do food colouring, chemicals and additives. If you are not sure how sensitive you are to what your body is telling you, try to record any emotions or perceptions you have within 2-3 hours of eating. Mindful eating begins when you put something in your mouth, understand your reaction or response to it, and note if it was a positive or negative experience.

Often the foods we eat every day, such as wheat, sugar, milk, and peanuts are highly allergenic when not rotated and eaten with a lot of colourful variety. Although these foods are okay from time to time, they should not compose the staple of the diet. High antioxidant foods should be what drives us to eat, and keeps our interest.

Have you heard of the idea that quality is better than quantity when it comes to food? Reach for a pure pomegranate juice, or a tomato when you want something red, try berries when you want something blue, steam some green vegetables, and see these color wavelengths begin to affect your mood. Pair these fruits and vegetables with healthy fats and high fiber carbs, and you will stabilize your blood sugar, your neurotransmitters, and your emotions.

Teach your children to garden and grow these healthy foods themselves. This will pique their interest in nutrition at a young age, and garden produce tastes best! Let them help you select foods by colour at the store, and help in preparing colourful dishes. They will begin to see the effect on their motivations to eat, enjoy food, and be healthy.
